Last week, AVI had the pleasure of having Middle East Geopolitical Expert Avi Melamed share his expertise with students at McGill University! The event was in partnership with Bring Them Home Montreal and Hillel Montreal.
Students left significantly more informed on the real, on the ground perspectives and narratives within the Arab world.
A huge thank you to Iris Weinstein-Haggai for bravely sharing your harrowing story of grief as a result of October 7th, and our superstar Intern and Student Ambassador Raihaana Adira for offering closing remarks.

Grand Chief of the Ojibwe tribe from Thunder Bay, northwestern Ontario, Canada Harvey Yesno, is our #AllySpotlight this week.
Grand Chief Harvey Yesno was one of a group of Indigenous representatives who gathered at Jerusalem’s Western Wall Plaza on Monday, joining hands to show their support for Israel and the Jewish people.
The unique delegation marched from Jaffa Gate to the Western Wall through the alleys of the Old City, many of its members decked out in colourful traditional attire from a wide variety of Indigenous cultures, with beaded headbands, feathered headdresses, embroidered shawls, and woven textiles.
Among the crowd, alongside symbols of Indigenous cultures, many waved Israeli flags to express their support for the country in a time of war. But the delegation was uniquely positioned to also convey another message: Jews are indigenous to the land of Israel.
The march was organized by the Indigenous Embassy Jerusalem (IEJ), a nonprofit established in February with the goal of providing representation in Israel’s capital for indigenous people from around the world, independently from their countries of origin. AVI hosted representatives from IEJ at our offices in the summer and continue to work closely on various issues.
Grand Chief Harvey said it had been a dream to set up a permanent representation for indigenous people in Jerusalem, and that one of its main purposes was to counter the misinformation about Israel not being indigenous.
