A busy few weeks for AVI students, allies, and community members

Allied Voices for Israel (AVI)

Our Antisemitism and the Law Symposium; partnering on an event focused on combating antisemitism and Hinduphobia; bringing the shuk to McMaster University; and more!

Our Antisemitism and the Law Symposium was a huge hit with aspiring legal professionals and veteran lawyers alike

The end of November was a busy time for our Allied Voices for Israel (AVI) students, allies, and community members!

It was an honour and a pleasure to host incredible lawyers such as Arsen Ostrovsky, Leora Shemesh, and Michael Osborne at our Antisemitism and the Law symposium, presented by AVI in partnership with Jill Mayer and Lawyers Combating Antisemitism.

Well done to AVI students Mishel Anisimob, Samuel Benzaquen, and Moshe Bodokh for co-chairing the event.

Our panel of legal experts offered practical tips and guidelines for the law students and fellow legal professionals in attendance looking to meaningfully get involved in the fight against antisemitism and anti-Israel lawfare.

Special shout-out to JD candidate and online Israel advocacy sensation Ysabella Hazan for serving as our surprise guest speaker!

Media Personality and Political Analyst Van Jones is our #AllySpotlight

American political analyst, media personality, lawyer, author, and civil rights advocate Van Jones is our ally spotlight.

“The Palestinians deserve all the support in the world,” Jones said on Oct. 29 during the

On a recent episode of the Being Jewish with Jonah Platt podcast, Van Jones condemned Hamas and likened them to Nazis. “The Palestinian cause is just, they want human rights, they want dignity, they want sovereignty—that’s beautiful. And it’s been hijacked by a Nazi organization called Hamas who are terrible,” he said.

Characterizing support for Palestinians as “a good cause that’s been hijacked by bad people,” he urged that “you’ve got to be able to talk about this stuff honestly.”

Van Jones said that as a result of his positions on the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, “I’ve had people pull money out of things I’m a part of. But who cares? Nothing compared to what those kids went through at the Nova festival. Nothing compared to what the people went through at the kibbutz.”
