We are so excited to finally launch the first episode of what has been our brainchild the last little while: AVI's Common Voices Podcast!

Every two weeks, we will feature powerful stories of incredible advocates, student leaders, and the inspiring initiatives of everyday individuals, including those fostering meaningful allyship with Israel and the Jewish People.

Join our hosts Daniel Koren, AVI's Founder and Executive Director, and Justin Chow, AVI's Allyship Advisor, as they explore how coexistence and respect foster positive relationships, and that finding our common ground leads us to speaking in Common Voices

With May being both Jewish Heritage Month and Asian Heritage Month, in the premiere episode of Common Voices, host Justin Chow sits down with Amy Albertson (@theamyalbertson), a Chinese-American Jewish advocate and educator, to explore identity, allyship, and the power of standing up for truth.

Amy shares her journey growing up as a Chinese Jew in California, navigating both cultures, and discovering her Jewish identity more deeply while living in Israel for six years. From starting her platform “The Asian Israeli” to becoming a bold voice against antisemitism and misinformation, Amy’s story is one of curiosity, courage, and commitment to her people.

Director of Education Gabriela Rosenblum

Our Director of Education Gabriela Rosenblum recently taught 250 students (Grades 8-12), about Jewish indigeneity to Israel at Vancouver's King David High School. During the workshop, students wrote what comes to mind when they hear the word Israel and learned about the history of the Jewish People.

Gabriela also recently taught young students (Grades 2-5) about Israel at an event in partnership with Village Shul in Toronto.

Another AVI/HonestReporting Canada Campus Media Fellow has been published! Western University student Emily was recently published in Winnipeg's The Jewish Post & News.

In “Canada Is Failing Its Students on Holocaust Education — Here’s What Must Change,” Emily explains how a lack of proper Holocaust education is leading to increased misinformation and antisemitism on campus.

“Despite curriculum requirements, Holocaust education in Canada is alarmingly inadequate. A recent survey found that nearly one in five young Canadians believe the Holocaust has been exaggerated. This highlights a dangerous gap in historical understanding, leaving students vulnerable to misinformation, denial, and rising antisemitism,” writes Emily.

“If Canada is serious about combating hate, it must take Holocaust education far more seriously.”

Director of Education Gabriela Rosenblum taught workshops at three different Toronto Catholic schools
