I would like to begin by thanking the hundreds of Torontonians who joined Allied Voices for Israel (AVI), the Canadian Women Against Antisemitism (CWAA), StandWithUs Canada, and Hillel Ontario for their support of our Rally to Stand with Students at Earl Bales Park on Sunday, May 5th.

Students representing several Canadian universities shared their experiences combating antisemitism and hatred on campus and AVI had the opportunity to speak about our efforts uniting students of all backgrounds in support of Israel.

Proud ally and Israel advocate Reza Azarpoor stands with AVI Campus Advisor Noa Peretz Benchaya at the Montreal rally for Israel on Thursday, May 2, 2024

Last week, AVI staff and students helped lead a counter-protest at McGill University in Montreal. Hundreds of students and community members, Jewish and non-Jewish alike, joined to demand that McGill enforce its policies against illegal encampments, and to stand against anti-Jewish hatred on campus.

We were truly emboldened by the incredible students and allies who came out and stood on the side of truth and justice.

On Wednesday, May 8th, AVI is co-hosting a peaceful rally alongside several campus groups in solidarity with students and faculty of conscience at the University of Toronto in a bid to show them that they are not alone!

We are disappointed that U of T backtracked on its decision to dismantle the illegal encampment. This has allowed protestors to continue their stay and promote anti-Jewish rhetoric, and limit the mobility and security of Jewish and allied students.

The location of the rally will be announced on Wednesday at 3 p.m. EST via Instagram.

The rally will end in time for attendees to participate in a Kidney Donation swab event in support of our incredible ally and warrior Raheel Raza that is taking place uptown. We encourage all of you to join and stand with our dear ally and friend.

Also on Wednesday, if you are a medical student or know a budding medical professional, AVI is partnering with Hillel McMaster and the Jewish Medical Student Association on a Medical Networking event!

If you're going to be in the Hamilton area, our event is the perfect opportunity to connect with esteemed professionals, including residents, physicians, professors, and department chairs.

With all of the exciting events we've got happening Wednesday, make sure you don't double book yourself (we know, they all sound great).

Golf season is right around the corner. This year we are hosting not one, but two Drive for Israel Golf Tournaments!

Carole and Dr. Bernard Zucker & Family graciously present two tournaments: Tuesday June 18th or Thursday Sept 12th. Register for one golf tournament and receive one complimentary play or register for both and receive two complimentary plays!

There are limited spots available, so make sure you register now to play some golf at the scenic Lebovic Golf Club. Help us in our mission to unite students of all backgrounds against anti-Jewish hatred.

Kristin Berry, Chair of AVI's Allyship Committee, and AVI Executive Director Daniel Koren meet with ICEJ Canada members and Executive Director Donna Holbrook

AVI Executive Director Daniel Koren was proud to share more about our educational efforts and allyship initiatives at an event at Toronto’s Evangel Temple last weekend.

The event was hosted by ICEJ Canada National Executive Director Donna Holbrook. Kristin Berry, Chair of AVI's Allyship Committee, was also in attendance to share more about the importance of Israel advocacy in the wake of rising antisemitism across Canada and the world.

AVI Executive Director Daniel Koren recently had a meeting with Noor Dahri, Executive Director of Islamic Theology of Counter Terrorism (ITCT).

They discussed ways for Jews and Muslims to unite despite the campaign to divide us, the importance of Israel’s war against Hamas, and our shared goal of expanding the Abraham Accords across the region.

Persian-Canadian ally Salman Sima is our ally spotlight!

Our #AllySpotlight this week is Persian-Canadian ally Salman Sima, who has established a reputation as a freedom fighter in Toronto, protesting against dictatorships and corrupt regimes.

Salman has gained increased attention and recognition for his efforts since Oct. 7th. He has organized numerous protests to stand strong for Israel against Hamas supporters. “It’s not a matter of Islam against Jews or any specific religion, it’s a matter of terrorism and a matter of foreign influence,” he said at one rally.
