Students arrive in Jerusalem for AVI Common Ground program

Allied Voices for Israel (AVI)

20 students from 13 university campuses across Canada arrive in the Holy City in time for the third night of Chanukah

AVI Student Ambassadors arrive in Jerusalem for the launch of our Common Ground Ambassadorship program (Dec. 27, 2024)

They couldn't stop us – and believe me they tried.

Despite Houthi rocket attacks, logistical obstacles, and lengthier-than-normal travel times, I am proud to share that our cohort of 20 university students have arrived in Israel!

These brave new AVI Common Ground Ambassadors, Jewish and non-Jewish alike and representing 13 campuses across Canada, made it to Jerusalem just in time for Shabbat and the third night of Chanukah.

Our students will explore strategic destinations and learn about Israel's diversity and democracy and meet with high-profile experts, journalists, and politicians. They will visit sites affected by the Oct. 7th attacks so they are better equipped to tell Israel's story when they return to campus.

Over the next few days alone, our students will tour the Christian and Jewish Quarters of the Holy City, meet with geopolitical experts, learn about the significance of the Kotel and other sites, and learn directly from diverse residents of Jerusalem to hear their stories.

AVI Student Ambassadors learn about the significance of the Kotel (Dec. 27, 2024)

Students will meet with Arab-Israeli journalists and human rights advocates advancing peace and partnership and gain a better understanding of the politics of the region. They will hear from high profile experts with organizations such as Sharaka and visit Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs where they will learn and hear from Members of Knesset.

They will also participate in important AVI workshops and educational programs focused on bringing the knowledge they are gaining back to campus, building coalitions and alliances, telling Israel's story amidst hateful antisemitic propaganda campaigns, and understanding Jewish indigeneity to the Land of Israel.

Many of these students are already active in the fight against antisemitism and we are proud to work with them to expand their arsenal of resources in advocating for Israel on campus.

Please make sure you are following us on Instagram so you can stay up-to-date on their journey!
