High school students who are part of AVI's Common Roots Ambassadorship program were delighted this week to hear from AVI Allyship Advisor Abhinav Deshwar and AVI Allyship Committee Chair Kristin Berry.

Abhinav and Kristin participated in a discussion on allyship with our Common Roots Ambassadors via an informative and enlightening webinar. Students listened intently as Abhinav and Kristin shared more about their respective faiths, and journeys to becoming allies and advocates for Am Yisrael.

Thank you Abhinav and Kristin for sharing such inspiring wisdom with our high-school students – it made a tremendous impact!

AVI High School Advisor Michelle Gorokhovsky at BBYO Canada's J-Serve Conference in Toronto

On Sunday, our High School Advisor Michelle Gorokhovsky tabled at BBYO Canada's J-Serve Conference at Prosserman JCC. An International Day of Jewish Youth Service, J-Serve is when Jewish teens around the world come together to make a difference in their communities and beyond.

Michelle connected with dozens of tenacious teenagers who were passionate about becoming advocates and leaders in their communities. It was an afternoon of meaningful service, connection, and community!

Our very own Alberta Campus Advisor Jean-Luc Mudingayi appeared on a recent episode of The Schmooze, a podcast that brings together the voices, programs, and stories shaping Jewish life in Calgary.

Jean-Luc joined hosts Don Schapira and Jared Shore for a discussion on what real allyship actually looks like.

They also discussed what it means to be an ally when it’s not easy, the reality on campus before and after October 7 and his work with AVI, why some voices are dismissed, and why others carry differently, as well as the role of leadership, identity, and courage in today’s climate.
